Faculty Engagement in Educational Technology: Portal

Purpose

This collaborative project with the Technology Enabled Learning group in MedIT aims to implement an online portal of existing educational technologies available to FOM teaching staff, a newsletter on educational technologies and a survey to determine existing current use of tools and interest, suitable engagement mechanisms and the level of contact to awareness (along a change management curve) among Faculty.

Overview

The online portal will be geared towards faculty members and accessed as a “gateway” or “one-stop-shop” for finding out more about teaching and learning tools and activities. As the overall strategy is developed, this gateway portal will then allow for a platform upon which to roll-out current and future engagement strategy activities. It will link faculty members to existing resources and support, highlight selected tools and their value from a pedagogical perspective, give examples of teaching scenarios, and feature faculty engaged in existing or pilot activities.

The newsletter will highlight useful technologies around a pedagogical theme and will be a vehicle for communicating about the presence of the online portal.

The survey will be distributed at the end of March 2012. It will ask faculty what are their current use of tools outlined in the inventory, what tools they would like to use, and how they would like to be engaged with educational technologies and their awareness of the educational technologies listed on the portal.
