Starting in 1999, the Division of Continuing Professional Development and Knowledge Translation (CPD/KT) grew from a cost centre to an academic unit with research in continuing professional development, eHealth, and knowledge translation. Correspondingly the work force expanded from 3.5 FTE in 1999 to 27 FTE by 2006. In the meantime, this decade saw the rapid growth and development of eHealth provincially, nationally, and internationally that profoundly affect health practices, education and research.
To recognize the importance of this shift, CPD/KT split into two offices, forming what today is the Division of Continuing Professional Development and the eHealth Strategy Office. Since its start in 2009, the eHealth Strategy Office has also grown in size and reputation to be able to attract considerable interest from various stakeholder groups such as government, health authorities, medical professionals and research grants regionally, nationally and internationally.
